 Mitch’s Bike Is Almost Done!

They have been heads down working to get this bike done. Mitch is planning to take it to his family reunion in California for the 4th of July. He wants to show the bike to his family and pay tribute to his deceased father.
The frame is all molded and sprayed in House of Color Candy Blue with a lighter marble effect. (Old school look) The engine specialist is coming from Salt Lake City on Saturday, June 28th to fire it up and do the final adjustments. There are not many people who have seen the inside of one of these engines. Check back soon for the completed bike! How To Make A Gas Tank DVD !

In this long-awaited video, Ron Covell shows the ‘intimate details’ of making two very different gas tanks. The first is a flat-bottomed chopper style tank made from steel, and the second is a comma-shaped tank made from aluminum. Performance And Efficiency

PERFORMANCE. Performance is the most recognizable word when it comes to making your bike respond quicker. There are MANY so called "performance" parts available for your bike that if you were to actually believe all the horsepower claims that the part manufacturers make, you would have a rocket. After market parts manufactures, and even the factory, all claim that 'If you install this part on your bike you will see a 5% horsepower gain". They know that by just mentioning an increase in horsepower that people will buy their product. Reminds me of the traveling Snake Oil salesmen who would travel around the country claiming their product would cure what ails you. Only the faces have changed.

EFFICIENCY. Although not nearly as common a word as performance, it is probably equal to or even more important. Remember the Samson and Goliath theory. Just because you have a 125,000 cubic inch motor don't think that you have the fastest, badest, V-Twin to hit the street. Historically, Harley’s probably having the most inefficient running motor. The biggest reason, the design. To be more specific, head design. If you look at the V-Twin motor, what do you see? I'll tell you what I see. I see a 45 degree twin cylinder motor sharing a common lower end that has not changed. The 45 degree design hasn't changed since it's inception in the 20's. What HAS changed is the head design. The Rebuilding of the Softail

I have had this bike since 2001 and for the most part, I love it. It has a look that I like though it is far from a show bike. The bike is a sleeper. It is losing paint in some places and the chrome is peeling off, but it runs strong….or it at least did. Months ago I lost a lifter. Since it had been a display bike at many shows and had really been abused on an off the road, I decided to take it apart and make sure everything was good.

Originally, it was an 88 inch motor with a free-flow air cleaner and an aftermarket header exhaust system. I had a local shop shortly after I bought the bike put a 95 kit in it. At the time, twin cam motors were new, this year being the first year of the twin cams with a chain balancer to remove vibration. The bike was built into a 95 inch twin cam, a VERY common configuration on the road today.

Once the motor was done, I had a little head work (very little), new 10:1 pistons, an S&S .570 gear drive cam, single fire ignition and a new Mikuni 42mm carb. This package put some significant horses to the rear wheel which lead me to a new clutch very soon after. Full Story Here!

VW Powered Drag Bike

I Decided we needed more horsepower, so built a 1776 cc motor and dual weber carbs for 2007. The bike had more power, but still pulled the motor down too much on launch. We were running mid 90’s in mid 8 second range in the 1/8 mile. Finally, I decided to do something drastic. I had built the clutch with 6 fingers, so I removed three of them, cutting the pressure in half. That was a total cure. The bike now runs around 100 mph just squeaking into the sevens. Last race, we made seven runs within two hundredths, guess I need a bigger motor, if I want to go faster. I called this bike my "VW Rod". Read The full story here
